Alabama Lawyers Credit Association

Q. What does it cost to become a member of the Association?
A. Nothing, zero, nil, nada. Your Alabama Bar membership in good standing qualifies you for full privileges of the Alabama Lawyers Credit Association, LLC for free.

Q. Do you do extensive credit checks if I apply for a cash advance?
A. Hardly. If you were rolling in the chips; if you had settled a billion dollar class action case; or if you had won the lottery; you wouldn’t be hitting this website. We don’t deal with the top 20% of lawyers in Alabama; we’re here to help the 80% that make the top 20% possible.

Q. How fast can you get me cash when I need it?
A. Today, tonight, tomorrow. We wire transfer funds to your bank account; send checks overnight; or we can give you an ALCA ATM card and let you draw cash at any ATM machine anywhere.

Q. What collateral do I need to get working capital for my law practice?
A. We look to your "receivables", whether confirmed or contingent, as the primary collateral for any of our services.

Q. Am I personally liable to repay the advances?
A. Certainly we expect our members who receive working capital advances to repay us, along with a service fee, when they are able to do so, usually when they settle a case and receive their fees. We can structure advances to fit your needs and circumstances, and link repayment deadlines to the settlement of a case. In many instances, we can work with you on a “non recourse” basis where you are not personally liable for repayment if the case isn’t settled or won at trial. In other instances, we can “substitute collateral” and look for repayment from the settlement of another case if the first case is lost. We are flexible. Contact us to discuss your particular circumstances.

Q. How do I contact the Association?
A. Call (800) 720-5459 during office hours Monday – Friday. E-mail loyd@alcallc.org anytime. Or use the interactive Application Form on this website anytime.

Q. If I ask for an ALCA ATM card, how does it work?
A. It works just like a numbered checking account linked to a debit card. We assign you a card and PIN number. We fund advances to the card (i.e., put a credit balance on the card). You withdraw cash whenever you need it at any ATM, or purchase goods and services wherever debit cards are honored (MasterCard network). You can add credit to the card at any time by sending us a check, money order or wire transfer. The card belongs to ALCA, but it is assigned only to you for your private and personal use. Use the card to access funds we advance to you, and use the card like your personal checking account.
